Several times a day, the phone at His House Children’s Home rings. The caller is looking to place a child who has just been removed from a dangerous family situation and needs a safe place to live.
More and more often recently, our answer has had to be that the 106 beds on our campus are full, and we do not have any available foster homes to accept the child. In 2017, we had to turn away 1,200 children due to our lack of capacity.
I am sure you understand, no matter how many times we have to turn away these hurting children, each one still breaks our hearts!
Here at His House, we believe that every child deserves the warmth and nurturing care of a family. I am writing to you today to let you know that, thanks to an amazing opportunity made possible by a generous friend of our organization, YOU can help us to help more children. But first let me tell you about Jose and Anthony.
Recently, we received a call about 4-year-old Jose and 2-year-old Anthony. The brothers entered the foster care system because of severe neglect and deplorable living conditions related to their mother’s long history of drug abuse.
The boys arrived at His House with serious infections and other neglected medical conditions. They were infested with lice and very hungry.
Foster parents Liz and Mike answered our call and accepted the placement of the brothers. They were determined to respond to their calling as foster parents and love these children back to health.
Slowly the children are responding to the safe, caring family environment. Simple things like eating meals together, play time and even bedtime are welcomed by the children. Their behavior continues to improve in response to the foster parents’ direction.
For more than 28 years, His House has been a haven of restoration for abused, abandoned and neglected children here in South Florida. However, it was never intended to be the forever home for children.
In addition to our on-campus housing, His House also counts on the assistance of 50 trained and licensed foster families who are willing to open their hearts and homes to children in need.
It is clear that we must expand this foster care program in order to continue to serve the children who come to us for care. We need to invest significantly in recruitment, training and licensing of additional foster families – and to do this, we need you!
For this purpose, we are launching the “When Love Calls” campaign and here’s how you can help.
A friend of His House has generously offered to match up to $50,000 in gifts made by caring people like you to the campaign by June 30, 2018. That means any gift you make to the campaign before the end of June will be matched dollar-for-dollar to help expand our foster care program.
The impact of your gift will be doubled! And for your donation of $50 or more, we will send you a special “When Love Calls” T-shirt.
The children of South Florida need your help more today than ever before. Please don’t miss this opportunity to double your impact!
