In celebration of the life of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., January 21, 2013 volunteers from across the city joined forces for a great day of service!
Thanks to our faithful friend Calvin Hughes, local 10 news anchor and advisory board member of the YMCA of Broward County, this group of motivated volunteers worked exceptionally hard to make sure this place was as clean as possible.
One excited volunteer commented, “I just loved the spirit of the house. Everyone was trying to help with something,” Vanessa Muller, YMCA Mom. For three hours, volunteers scrubbed floors, wiped down walls, and even did a bit of landscaping. Everyone was all hands on deck for this project, and it was so great to feel the support of the community.
“This project is contributing to the kids and gives us the opportunity to be part of that contribution.” Arturo Cruz, YMCA Dad
After an arduous morning of revamping and cleaning, volunteers had the opportunity to have lunch and play games with the kids! Everyone met up at the His House pavilion where they shared a delicious lunch, courtesy of Subway, as well as fun games with the Y’s awesome counselors.
“I truly enjoyed helping today, and glad that I could make a difference.” David Pretty, YMCA Dad
We are so grateful for our new friends who came to give back to His kids, and we look forward to seeing them again soon!
“It was amazing! I wish more people in the community would participate in programs like this.” Priscilla Soto, YMCA Volunteer
“I had a lot of fun volunteering!” Sabrina Muller, YMCA member (5 yrs. old)
