On Saturday, December 1st we celebrated our favorite holiday tradition here at His House - DECK THE HALLS! 15 different groups and over 200 volunteers came to make our homes a holiday spectacle.
The evening began with praise & worship, along with some of our favorite Christmas carols at the chapel. Then it was time to get to work! Each group went to their respective cottage and decorated Christmas trees, putting up Christmas lights outside the homes, baking cookies, and creating fun festive crafts with the kids.
After every ornament was up, and each star was shining brightly above the tree, the groups shared a delicious dinner with all the kids in the cottage and then it was back to the Chapel for a Christmas concert by Coral Park Ministries. What a great way to kick off the holiday season!
Jacqueline Binner- decorated H 41- "Deck the Halls means to me that we begin the season practicing what Christmas is all about. We all have such fond memories of decorating for Christmas with our families and practicing traditions that mean so much to us as we grow into adults. Christmas is about sharing, giving and love. The children at His House make it so easy for us to put these virtues into practice. They are LOVE! "I hope the children understand that one day they can create an environment in their own homes full of love and the beauty of the season. I hope they understand that they are not alone in this world and that there are people that love and care for them."
Alejandra Marin from A Star- decorated H33- "Very pleasantly surprised to see what a loving and caring home His House provides to children in need. It was a lot of fun to help decorate. It was fulfilling to see the children participate. I received a lot more by doing this, then I expected to give. If there is anyone to thank, it is His House."
Kathy Perez-Gurri (Board Member)- decorated H23- "This year I spent Thanksgiving at His House and loved it so much that I returned in December to participate in Deck the Halls decorating one of the cottages. What a Gratifying and memorable time I had. The love and care that His House provides these children was evident in each of the experiences. I encourage every volunteer to participate."
Bithja Laurent- "Today has been an eye opener for me. I am so happy that I was able to give my assistance to this amazing family and program. I honestly do not want to leave or want this day to end, but I am happy that I can come back and participate again for many years to come."
