“This is an awesome opportunity for Hands on Broward and employees of Discovery Communications to make an impact in their local community with an organization that does so much to help children who are in the greatest need,” exclaimed Sander Schrantz, Director of Special Projects & Emergency Management for Hands On Broward.
The team of volunteers participated in many projects that included painting whimsical murals throughout the courtyard, one volunteer shared, “It is a pleasure to paint bright colors to give a bright view to these kids.” Deverly Martin, Business Analyst,
The team was also in charge of reorganizing the children’s classrooms, creating special “discovery zone” play areas, and revamping our basketball court.

Needless to say the volunteers did a fantastic job and left our academy ready for the upcoming school year!

After the teams finished the projects they set out to do they were able to enjoy a delicious ice cream social with the campers from Camp 33.
“The meaning of Discovery is enriching kids’ lives by bringing science and learning into the classroom. It was our pleasure to decorate it in a way that can affect them for a lifetime.” noted Maritza Pardinas, Media Planner.
One volunteer, Irune Ariztoy, Senior Producer, described her experience beautifully, “this is an opportunity to get involved. We are so concentrated on our own lives and this is a chance to see the need and lend a helping hand.” We are so grateful to our dedicated friends at Discovery Communications and Hands on Broward.
