2nd Annual Waves of Renewal Ladies Luncheon

On September 12, 2009, His House Children’s Home hosted their 2nd Annual Waves of Renewal Ladies Luncheon on board one of the world’s largest and most imaginative marvels, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s “Liberty of the Seas”.  150 women embarked on an inspirational afternoon. The ladies were greeted on board by the crew with tropical frozen daiquiris and delicious hors d’oeuvres as they mingled and got to know each other.

Once all the ladies had boarded the ship, they entered the ice-skating rink where they were entertained by a spectacular surprise ice show. Excited by the surprise show, they then entered the dinning room modeling their beautiful hats and anticipating what would come next.  A delicious 3-course lunch was served as the ladies voted for the “Best Hat” contest. The audience was moved as they experienced the 20-year journey of keynote speaker, His House’s Executive Director/Founder and winner of the “Best Hat” contest, Jean Caceres-Gonzalez. Other inspiring moments were those of Heather funk, long term foster parent and recent adoptive mother, shared her testimony regarding the perseverance and love it took to have her three beautiful girls and Kathy Perez-Gurri, a faithful His House board member, who took the time to share a few words about the way His House has changed her life.

Katiana, a young lady who aged out of foster care a few years ago, spoke about how despite her many challenges as an at-risk child and teenage mom, she graduated high school and is now attending Nova University.  She is striving to get into a law school so that in her future career she can advocate for children in foster care.  Kathy, mentioned above, is currently mentoring Katiana.

His House is very grateful to all those women who joined their efforts to impact the lives of children in crisis and look forward to our 3rd Annual Ladies Luncheon.
