I have been observing Dan, a 14-year-old young man who seemed to be improving almost daily. He was happier and more confident, and began making friends around the campus. When I asked, I found out that his counselor had helped him discover and deal with many painful issues from his past.
When Dan kept these to himself, he felt dirty and ashamed. When he was able to talk about them and understand that the things that happened to him were not his fault, he found freedom. His life was restored and refreshed.

Other times, it is not a big revelation like Dan experienced, but the opportunity just to be a kid. Many of the children who come to His House don't know how to play or do the silly kind of things that go along with being a child.

But if you walk around our campus, you'll hear the refreshing sound of laughter coming from our cottages. It is so important for the children we serve.

Recently, one of our cottages held a concert in their living room.
The children played their instruments - the trombone, the French horn, the baritone and the tuba - while the house mom played her trumpet. They had a feeling of accomplishment and enjoyed themselves as they harmonized together. They even recorded the concert so that they could continue to listen to it.

Every day of the year, we serve children who need a refreshinq, life-restorinq shower of safety and love. God has called us to this ministry, and it is a blessinq to be a part of it.
