FAIR PARTNERS TESTIMONIES — MAY 2008

"Adults have a responsibility to ensure that our children are well educated and protected.  That is why I attend these events- to further my outreach to children in need."

Kevin Magwood, Volunteer for Women in Distress

"Today I have experienced an outreach to a community of people that we sometimes fail to notice that have a need because of our busy schedules in our own jobs.  I was able to share my Christian beliefs as well as my duties in the Army and was pleased to know that this ministry keeps the hope and faith that with God everything is possible."

SGT Angel Sosa, US ARMY

"It is such a joy to be able to participate in an event such as this.  I am please to find that the Lord can humble me and use me in such a special way to speak with young adults about God and how God loves them, regardless of their circumstances."

Alberto Echaburu, Calvary Chapel Miami Youth Leader & Police Office

"Helping transitioning youth to find employment and providing them with vouchers to pursue a higher education is very rewarding personally."

Sylvia Daughtrey, Center Director for YOUTH CO-OP

"I have been through similar situations as these youths.  To be able to give them a message of hope and offer people the opportunity to be part of a church family and help them rise above their past situations means so much to me.  Sarah's one-year old daughter had a heart murmur since she was born.  She let me pray for her in the Community Connection event last month and she came back this month to let me know she went to the doctor and her daughter's heart murmur was gone.  Sarah assured me she knew this miracle was directly from God.  I know it's a divine appointment for me to come to the Community Connection fairs."

Soraya Cepeda, Pastor - Miami Harvest Church

HIS HOUSE LAUNCHES NEW COMMUNITY CONNECTION PROGRAM
FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE AGED OUT OF FOSTER CARE SYSTEM

His House Children’s Home debuted the Community Connection Program in a two-day outreach fair on Monday and Tuesday, March 3 and 4th 2008.

His  House Children’s Home recently launched the Community Connection Program which seeks to reconnect its Road To Independence clients, (young adults ages 18-23 who have aged-out of the state foster care system), with the community by  emphasizing the importance of education, health and general welfare through Life Skills and outreach. Representatives from local churches, business, universities and organizations prepared excitedly and waited anxiously as the agency’s Road To Independence clients rolled in to partake in the events of the day.

Day one of the outreach fair was very successful as the agency, along with several Community Connection outreach partners connected with over 40 clients; helping them apply for jobs, open bank accounts, fellowshipped with each other and so much more. As clients made their way in, representatives from a range of outreach organizations welcomed them with enthusiasm; prepared to assist them and give them useful resource information. Day two was even better as clients willingly engaged in all the services that were available to them. Some of the young adults from the day before enjoyed their experience so much, that they visited us again.

As the Community Connection Program exists to achieve several outcomes that include revolutionize and advocate Foster Care as a connected network in the community, develop a comprehensive model of care for transitioning youth, cultivate an interdependent culture by establishing and implementing programs/services that have mutual benefits for both the community and Road To Independence clients.

We are proud to announce that with the help of our outreach partners, success in these goals is off to a great start.  Our corporate outreach partners from Wachovia Bank opened over 13 new bank accounts and provided clients with supporting financial literacy information in order to manage their accounts. Our ministry partners were here to inspire a spiritual movement among our clients. One inspiring account is the spiritual impact felt by one young man. As ministry outreach partners from Iglesia Biblica Bautista (IBB Church) prayed for him, he was thankful and expressed his gratitude and came to faith in Christ.

Upon leaving the fair, each participant received a goody bag filled with day-to-day supplies and a $15 Publix gift card, courtesy of a donor.

We are thrilled at the successful debut of the Community Connection Program and look forward to continuing to making a difference in the lives of these deserving youth. The Community Connection fair takes place on the first work day of every month. The next outreach fair will be on Tuesday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 2 from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
