Rediscoverying a whole new world through reading - American Express team transforms the reading corner in the 2nd and 3rd grade at the His House Academy

On August 25, 2010, dedicated employees from American Express came to His House and volunteered their time to remodel the reading corner in Mr. West’s Mr. West’s 2nd and 3rd grade class at the His House Academy.  Ikea Interior Designer, Jenny Bencomo, created a modern design layout and the team worked hard as they assembled the pieces of furniture and repainted the bookshelves making them look brand new.  A carpet was added and colorful stickers were placed on the wall to make the area fun and inviting.

The team set to do something special for the kids and they truly did just that.  The students from the His House Academy were shocked as they walked in to see a new reading area.  Extremely grateful and giggling, they did not waste anytime, but immediately pulled out books and got comfortable on the new chairs.  The makeover was not only successful, but really inspired the students to read.  Thank you American Express!
